Period of entitlement


  • Eligibility for the attendance allowance begins on the first day of the month in which the claim was filed (in cases involving a medical impairment resulting from a traffic accident, stroke, etc., eligibility begins on the date of the event):
    For a person entitled to a general disability allowance – not before 90 days have passed since the date they became entitled to the general disability allowance.
    For a person not entitled to a general disability allowance – not before 90 days have passed since the day they were determined to have at least 75% medical disability (for the purpose of the attendance allowance).
  • A National Insurance Institute physician may determine eligibility for the attendance allowance retroactively for a period not exceeding 6 months prior to the filing of the claim, provided the insured person meets all the criteria for the allowance.
  • The attendance allowance is payable starting from the 31st day, provided all the following conditions are met:
  1. The disabled person is found to be dependent on the assistance of another person for a continuous period of at least 6 months.
  2. A medical disability (for attendance services) of 75% or higher has been determined.
  3. The person did not receive a disabled child allowance during this period.
  • A person who has reached retirement age is not eligible for the attendance allowance.
  • An insured person who is eligible for the attendance allowance upon reaching retirement age will continue to receive the allowance after retirement age, provided they continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
